Self-Care to Relax and De-stress

Self-care is so important for living a balanced, energized, and joyful life. Too often self-care gets deprioritized as we go about our lives, but, this leaves us feeling more drained and stressed. Taking the time to prioritize ourselves helps us refuel and reset to meet life as our best selves.

Magickal Baths are a great form of self-care that help you physically, mentally and energetically. Magickal Baths can be used to relax the body, calm the subconscious, allowing for peace of mind and rejuvenation. It gives you an opportunity to reset your energy and bring in tranquility. There are many physical benefits to taking hot baths as well, from helping to relieve cold/flu symptoms, to lowering blood pressure, to helping you fall asleep faster, and more. Adding a Magickal aspect helps you receive energetic benefits as well for more complete self-care.

How you can make a Magickal Bath:

1. Create an altar in your bathroom

By creating an altar you set the space for magick to take place. You can make an altar by placing items that represent all four elements- earth, water, air, fire.

For example, you can use:

  • Crystals or rocks for earth
  • A glass of water or water fountain for water
  • Incense or a feather for air
  • Lit candles for fire

2. Salt

Salt has amazing purifying and cleansing properties. By adding salt to your bath you actually help cleanse your aura. This can help you feel lighter, more positive, and more energized.

Start your bath by adding a handful of salt to the bath.

3. Essential Oils

Scents are one of the most powerful tools for eliciting memories and emotions. It is why a certain smell can make you instantly recall a memory from childhood, like smelling black coffee and remembering your grandparents brewing it in the morning when you were visiting them. This can be used to your advantage. By using smells that bring up certain kinds of memories or feelings, you can more easily shift yourself into a certain frame of mind. Using essential oils is one easy way you can do this.

Different essential oils help produce different frames of mind. If you want to calm yourself and reduce stress and anxiety, lavender is particularly helpful. If you want to boost your energy, citrus is especially useful. If you want to clear and focus your mind, mint is a good go-to. If you want to feel more loving and at peace, geranium is a great essential oil.

Add several drops of essential oil to your bath, until it has a pleasant aroma. You can even add a couple of different essential oils to your bath to create a blended scent.

4. Crystals

Different crystals have different healing properties. Crystals help a variety of areas from reducing stress, to increasing unconditional love, to psychic intuition and so much more. You can look into which crystals help with the areas that you’d like to shift or simply work with crystals that intuitively call to you. Clear quartz is a great addition as it is an amplifier so it will amplify the effects of the bath. Rose quartz is another particular favorite as it helps open up the heart chakra and enhances love.

You can place crystals along the edge of the bath or even put them in the water if they are big enough and are insolvent.

5. Flowers

As a final touch to your bath, you can add flowers or flower petals. This adds beauty, a feeling of royalty, and richness. It invokes sensuality, literally awakening the senses. to bring you more into the present moment. Each flower also has its own magickal properties that are added to the bath when they are incorporated. In particular, roses are associated with beauty, purity, and passion.

6. State your intention

Before you get into the bath, state out loud what it is you want this bath and the water to give you – more relaxation, a clearer mind, more self-love, more compassion, whatever it is. Be sure to state it in a positive form of what you want more of.

7. Relaxation

Enjoy this luscious environment you’ve created for yourself! The lit candles flickering in the bathroom, the smell of essential oils, the warm water enveloping you. Let yourself be present and enjoy this gift. Take deep breaths with your eyes closed to really relax. Let your mind quiet as you relish in this relaxing bath. Notice if you have any insights. You can use this time to meditate and connect with your inner guidance.

8. Letting go

After soaking in the juicy goodness you created for yourself, it’s time to release negativity. As you get towards the end of your bath, visualize all negativity leaving you and entering the water. Continue to do this until the water is full. Once you are done you can step out of the bath, leaving all negativity behind.

9. Gratitude

Take a moment to be thankful for this experience. Appreciate all the different ingredients that came together to create this rejuvenating environment for you and thank the water for creating this healing container.

Daily Life

By using Magickal Baths to reset your energy on a regular basis, you can approach life more calmly, happily, and energized. Using this as a tool to help you overcome challenges in your life. For instance, if you find yourself being extra self-critical, doing a Magickal Bath for self-compassion. Or if you find you’re feeling particularly drained, doing a Magickal Bath for increased vitality. Or perhaps if you find your days long and packed, simply taking time to pause and simply be.
